Week 1 (2/02–2/04)

The first week started off great as I got to know my group members Mohammed, Amy, Carolyn, and Mina. We first met up on Thursday morning to discuss the methods of observation that all of us were able to do with our location and available resources. We all wrote on a google doc about the target population, research methods, all the available grocery service options, and any other preliminary concerns that we thought of. We decided to assign everyone a different grocery store such as Giant Eagle, Target.. We also assigned anyone who had access to a car to observe the curbside delivery spots if possible.

Week 2(2/09–2/11)

Over the weekend, I video called my Chinese grandparents currently living in Canada. I thought it would be interesting to observe how they operate online services, with a few obstacles such as language barriers and not familiar with technology. My grandparents told me that they prefer going to the store because first they live alone and don’t need much and second they feel that it’s more convenient to see what they are buying, even if it is risky. The conversations helped me come up with some problems and potential solutions. Our group met again after class on Wednesday to work on our stakeholder map and developed personas on Thursday and Friday.

Week 3(2/12–2/19)

This week we made a lot of progress by coming up with all of the problems, solutions, and finalizing the stakeholder map. After our first presentation, we realized that some personas and example solutions could be cut down because our presentation exceeded the recommended time by a lot. We also redesigned some of the slides, making the personas less biased and adding more images instead of text.

Week 4(2/20–2/26)

For final presentation week, we did a lot of refining as a group on our presentations based on the feedback from last week. We cut down the number of personas to three essential ones, as well as the number of final solutions, which made the presentation much more concise and better timed. We ran through the presentation as a group before the final deliverables and worked on the reports together. Overall I feel like I learned a lot about thinking through empathy and recognizing the real-life issues of very different demographics through generating stakeholder maps and personas.
